U.S. visa guide
O-1 is for individuals with extraordinary ability in their field. The bar is high: sustained national or international acclaim, evidenced by major awards, publications, press coverage, leading roles, high salary, or membership in prestigious associations. O-1A covers sciences, education, business, and athletics; O-1B covers arts, motion pictures, and television.
Typical validity
Up to 3 years initially, extendable in 1-year increments
Max stay per visit
No fixed limit; extensions in 1-year increments
Visa fee
USD 205
O-1 is uncommon but not impossible for Indians. It is often used by F-1 graduates with strong research output (PhD with citations) who didn't make the H-1B lottery. Indian media coverage and awards count toward the evidentiary record.
